creek cleanupClean and restore our downtown creeks on Saturday, May 9 between 9 a.m. and noon. Meet at the Gazebo at Civic Park. Free continental breakfast at 8:45 a.m.! Be sure to wear old sneakers, bring gloves and plan to get wet. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a guardian; those under 18 must have their waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Second Saturday Walk with the Mayor on May 9
Join Mayor Bob Simmons for a 4.5 mile walk that goes under Ygnacio Valley Road not once, but twice! Meet at 9 a.m. in the parking lot on the west side of Valley Vista across from the Boundary Oak Golf Course. The walk will enter the Lime Ridge Open Space, go past an Open Space Foundation restoration project, and return to Boundary Oak around 11:30 a.m. No need to register in advance, but wear good walking shoes, and bring water. Free energy and water use assessments for Walnut Creek residents
Walnut Creek residents can help fight the drought by signing up for no-cost water and energy conservation services through the California Youth Energy Services (CYES) program. These "Green House Calls" will begin July 1 and run through August 6, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Draft Pedestrian Master Plan ready for comment
The draft of Walnut Creek's first Pedestrian Master Plan is ready for public review at www.wcwalks.org. The purpose of the plan is to make walking in Walnut Creek safer, easier and more popular. Special attention has been paid to improving access to schools, to transit, and within the downtown, as well as improved access to open space areas, parks and neighborhood shopping centers.
