Walnut Creek Recreation's Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to residents and non-residents interested in participating in high quality recreation programs. Scholarship recipients receive a 50% scholarship for qualifying Recreation programs (not including processing or supply fees). Scholarships are now available to everyone (adults, seniors, youth and specialized recreation participants) —residents and non-residents. See below for information on eligibility and how to apply.

Household income must not exceed the following maximum income requirement based on the applicable household size (City of Walnut Creek Affordable Housing Criteria – 60% AMI):

Proof of Income (REQUIRED):

  • Attach proof of income/financial need (see Income Eligibility chart above)
  • Previous year's tax return (form 1040/1040EZ/1040NR)* OR
  • Proof of income assistance from issuing agency (County, State, School District, etc.) OR
  • Proof that the child is a foster or institutionalized child.

* Your household size must equal the number claimed on your income tax form.

A Recreation Division representative will notify you within 3 weeks whether your application is approved or denied based on the application and requirement criteria.

If approved, a 50% scholarship award will be applied toward registration fees in eligible Walnut Creek Recreation programs. Supply fees and the $3.00 administrative processing fee per class are not included in the scholarship award.

Scholarship recipients must pay the remaining registration fee (co-payment) for enrollment. Co-payments may be made by check, cash, VISA or MasterCard. Supply fees are paid to the instructor.

Scholarships are awarded on a first-come/first-served basis and are dependent on the availability of program funds/resources. Scholarship recipients must re-apply every Fall quarter (usually in August) in order to be considered for future scholarships. Please check every year for new scholarship policy updates.
