Walnut Creek CERT will not run a Fall 2017 training session.

You can go to any city's CERT basic training program to make up classes or take the full training series and then join Walnut Creek CERT.

After you complete your CERT training please email your graduation certificate to cert@walnut-creek.org or drop off a copy to Megan Stephenson at Walnut Creek City Hall so we can welcome you to Walnut Creek CERT and tell you about our monthly meetings and continuing education classes.


Evening Training Series: Spring and Fall 2018

Two 7-week CERT basic training sessions will be offered on Tuesday evenings in 2018:

  • April 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22 - registration opens March 1, 2018
  • September 4, 11, 25, October 2, 9, 16, 23 - registration opens August 1, 2018

Location: ConFIre Training Facility on Treat Blvd (near Trader Joe's) plus locations listed in the schedule

CERT Class Class Schedules - Spring 2018, Fall 2018


Pre-registration for classes is REQUIRED for new students.

No registration required for returning students who need to make up classes or for CERTs who want to audit classes.

Classes are open to minors 16 or 17 years old with parental/guardian permission - these two signed forms are required at class 1 to participate - parental waiver & Disaster Service Worker registration.

What is CERT? Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

When disaster strikes, there won't be enough police officers or firefighters to attend to every need.

That's where CERT comes in. CERT members go through 20 hours of basic training, and then are sworn in as volunteer Disaster Service Workers for the City of Walnut Creek. They are trained to work together to safely respond to the needs of their neighborhoods following disaster, and to serve as the eyes and ears of the City's Emergency Operations Center and first responders.

Walnut Creek CERT contributions go beyond disaster response. In the past year, they've helped police search for a missing person, worked with Public Works to reduce flood hazards, and taught personal preparedness courses.

How CERT Works In Walnut Creek

Walnut Creek has 8 CERT Areas, all stocked with emergency response supplies. CERT graduates are assigned to a CERT Area based on where they live. In the event of emergency, CERTs gather at their CERT Staging Area and work together as trained in the CERT Program.

Walnut Creek CERT Leadership Team Meetings 
The Walnut Creek CERT Leadership Team meets the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the 3rd Floor Conference Room located at City Hall, 1666 North Main Street. These meetings are open to all CERT team members.

Walnut Creek CERT Disaster Service Worker Policy
Walnut Creek CERT graduates are sworn is as Disaster Service Workers for the City. This is effective for two years; the CERT may renew DSW status by taking additional training. To learn more, click here [PDF].
